The Human Resources Scorecard
Published in Hardcover by Butterworth-Heinemann (15 March, 2001)
Average review score:

Hard Measures Are The Cost Of AdmissionAs a former director or vice president of human resources in three different large companies over 14 years, I can't remember the number of times my bosses and peers challenged me to provide the business case for one hr program or another, either when developing a budget for the coming fiscal year, or defending a budget during hard times. For years, I lost more of those arguments than I won because I didn't always hold myself accountable to the same standards to which other functions were held, nor was I expected to. Over time, my staffs and I got better at measuring the impact of our strategies on various measures of organizational performance, and with that came budgetary "victories" and greater respect as business partners. That's what The Human Resources Scorecard is all about, and by reading and using the wisdom it contains, newcomers to the hr function and late adapters of hr measurement, can enjoy in relatively short order success and respect, which are the "price of admission" to the "executive suite". Having achieved that credibility, we then have the challenge of elevating our conversations with our bosses, peers and clients regarding the intangible dimensions of human and organizational soul, but that's another book in this series.
Excellent !!Super reference guide. Case studies are well organized and meaningful.
Great For All AudiencesThis is a comprehensive guide for evaluating any type of Human Resource Development (HRD) program. Even if you do not have a background in measurement and evaluation, you would be able to pick up this book and begin to understand the important aspects to consider in evaluation and how to plan and conduct an effective evaluation. The case studies in this book are valuable because they go into detail - you feel you have been a part of the program described. The authors are experienced practitioners who have alot to share and they do a terrific job providing the reader with the benefits of their experience.

In the Company of Stone: The Art of the Stone Wall
Published in Paperback by Artisan (01 September, 2001)
Average review score:

The Art of the Stone WallWant to learn how to make a stone wall a piece of art instead of construction? Dan Snow will guide you in this book. A book very strong in artistic expression, not construction technique. One excellent resource is the detail in the back which provides important information on how long each project took, stone sources, and construction methods. Photographer understands the art of stone because he uses his art well to express the art of the stone. You may not learn a whole lot, but you will be inspired, and thats the strength of his work! Its not construction, its truely ART!
A survey of the art involved in building the stone wallIn The Company Of Stone isn't just a landscaper's book, but deserves a spot on the art shelf as a survey of the art involved in building the stone wall. From Snow's own experiences working in stone to the various alternative designs offered by stone wall structures, In The Company Of Stone pairs black and white photos by Peter Mauss with the author/artist's reflections.
InspiringMany books explain the "how-to" of stonework; in this book Dan Snow explains the "why". The reader gets a glimpse of the creative possibilities of stone. Excellent photography; inspiring. This book is a "must-have" for anyone interested in stonework.

Kanyon and the Rainbow Stone
Published in Hardcover by Black Orb (01 June, 2000)
Average review score:

Lovely GraphicsHere is a wonderful intro for children to the fabulous potential of computer graphics. Never mind the charming story, Kanyon and the Rainbow Stone shows us how dynamic computer art can be. The hero comes alive not only through narrative but through energized drawing, as engaging as the best comic book characters. Settings often show fascinating detail, or are washed with the colors of fantasy. A fine blend of art forms engaging the full imagination!
Loved It!Kanyon shows us that we all have something to give and that we can make a difference in others lives if only our willingness to help and our sense of caring is alive within us. With just a little imagination and a lot of heart, Kanyon saves the little fairies of the forest and experiences the valuable qualities of love and caring for himself. The artwork is captivating and will draw the little readers into the scenes as well as the big readers! I loved the book and am sending it to all my nieces and nephews!
Highly recommended for children of all agesKanyon and the Rainbow Stone is a must read for children of all ages. It shows them how they can make a difference when they seek to help others. From the still of the night in his quiet neighborhood, Kanyon is able, through his efforts, to make a difference in the lives of the little people of the forest. His one small act of kindness saves them from imminent destruction and makes young Kanyon a hero for all! Beyond the story itself, the 32 full color illustrations are innovative and cutting edge. Martine Gaudissart has done a fabulous job with her first book!

Lucado 3 in 1: In the Eye of the Storm. He Still Moves Stones. a Gentle Thunder
Published in Hardcover by Word Publishing (October, 1998)
Average review score:

I just couldn't put it down! This is the first Lucado book I have read, but it won't be the last! From page one I loved this author. He has a wonderful way of making you know that God is interested in you. He shares wonderful stories in life that let you know there is a God who loves you. When I read this book I felt very loved by my Creator, and it's also helped me to see the little miracles in life that happen everyday. Everyone who doubts there is a God should get a copy of this book. I can't wait to dig into another one of Lucado's works! I really like the way he sees God, and I am beginning to see God the way I should, Finally!
This book definitely helped me get closer to God.I love this book. This the first "Lucado" book that I have ever read. It is priceless. After reading this book and praying, my life seemed to improve. Maybe it helped me see that things weren't really as bad as I thought. It definitely showed me that God is in control.
Share this book with others. This is the fifth copy of this book that I have purchased. I have given every copy to a friend. Max Lucado is my favorite author and these are three of his best books in one volume. Of course, all of his books are his best books. Pick any Lucado title. You will not be disappointed. He writes as if he were speaking only to you. "In the Grip of Grace" is one of my favorites, but every book I own of Lucado's is my favorite. He never disappoints. His tomes invite multiple readings and his clear style makes difficult truths easy to grasp. I just love his writing.

Mark It With a Stone
Published in Hardcover by Barricade Books (01 April, 1996)
Average review score:

Mark it With a StarJoseph Horn's memoir, Mark it with a Stone, is a sharply etched portrayal of the Holocaust as seen for seven years from inside a series of boxcars and concentration camp factories where workers who broke down were systematically broken down. Rich in irony, Horn's visual imagery of what is was like to be a Holocaust victim makes the whole terrible processing of humans seem almost normal despite his vivid accounts of near-starvation, random murders, beatings, and human callousness beyond beliefs. Horn survived several years as a slave of the Nazis, he believes, so he could tell the world what happened as he saw it. Mark it with a Stone accomplishes that goal using visual descriptions that are absolutely convincing and avoiding the lurid hyperbole that turn up in the average Holocaust story. It's all like a description of a day at school punctuated by chronic overwork, wretched food, and occasional murder. The reader, emotionally attached to the hardships of each and every Jewish person, not only feels he or she is actually there but also emerges as a survivor of the book. Because "Mark it with a Stone" presents itself in such an emotionally attaching and vivid manor, high school or advanced middle school students would find it accessible while adults would read it in a single sitting.
No Doubt about it,Mark this book with a Stone and Five StarsAfter reading the powerful first hand account,Mark It with A Stone, by Joseph Horn, think of how lucky you are to have a family, food, and a roof over your head. This autobiography takes you along Joseph Horn's journey through Europe and many different concentration camps. He faced death several times and there were times when he'd rather have been dead than alive and suffering. When all the Jews were liberated, he moved to the States. He had to learn how to start over and make a living with few friends and no direct family living. I can assure you that you will not forget such an experience like this one and will learn to teach others of this unfortunate disaster. Knowledge was one concept Horn kept, and hopefully we can all gain more knowledge and use it wisely just like Joseph did, not too long ago! Horn's most interesting aspect was definitely his courage. When you're facing danger, it's hard to act quickly and maturely. Yet, Joseph Horn did this without a problem. Courage is a characterisitic that does not come easily to most people, but Horn demonstrates this several times. To go through the death defying situations that Horn went through, it is evident that courage is needed. Horn was very lucky and benefited from having this important quality that he took with him through life. I highly recommend this book to all young adults and their parents. It's a great book that should be shared with people all around the country. It is very powerful and can be very graphic, so if you're not good at handling these details, then maybe it's not such a good idea. But, we could all learn a lot from Joseph Horn and his story. Regardless of religion, race, or ethnic background, this book should be read by all. If there were only more people with Joseph's courage, strength, wisdom, and compassion, the world would be a better place.
A very moving account of the Holocaust! It is just unbelievable how many times the author survived death. This is an excellent book for everyone interested in the truth about the Holocaust. Joseph Horn tells everything straightout, nothing but the truth. After reading it, you'll be left thinking about it for a very long time, and wondering how he, or anybody, could survive such an ordeal. An extraordinary book.

Mark of the Beast
Published in Paperback by La Casa Press (01 January, 1999)
Average review score:

Excellent ReadingThis book grabs your attention from the very first paragraph and doesn't let it go until you are finished reading it! The way the author weaves biblical prophecy, fiction, mystery and current events into the storyline makes it so believable that you have to wonder... what if?....
sure to be a blockbuster!Entertaining and provocative...and positively eerie in light of current world happenings. The "big plot" behind the story is incredibly clever. The dialogue is tight with good wordsmithing. I hope we'll be hearing much more from author Martin Stone.
A story to really reach into your mindOnce you start into this book, you cannot put it down. The way the author weaves the Revelation predictions into our everyday lives, leaves you in a daze wondering if this is not really the true interpretation of scripture. An extremely amazing twist to what religion has taught.

"Mark of the Stone" teaches while it entertains."Mark of the Stone" is written in a modern context, but the style and presentation are reminiscent of Tribal storytellers, making the message of the story ageless. Like the stories told by elders to grandchildren, this story has a strong underlying message and it is told in a very entertaining way. I highly recommend this book for the young or old.
As Engaging As The Harry Potter BooksRabiah Yazzie Seminole's "Mark of the Stone" really got me going. The writing style is terrific and really reminded me a lot of the "Harry Potter" books with it's detailed description and fantasy elements.
I think this is a great book for Indian kids and their parents. The book has a lot of great messages to impart -- things we ALL need to hear above the noise of the modern world.
Get it, read it and enjoy! I'm a fan!
Mark of the StoneRabiah Seminole has written a wounderfully enlightening book with a message for everyone. It lets you use your imagination as you follow the journey of a young boy who learns about himself and the world that we live in, the good and the bad. Once you start reading this book it is so engrossing that you can't put it down, you want to see what is going to happen next as the journey continues. I highly recomend this book to all, young and old alike.

More Than Love: Adopting and Surviving Attachment Disorder Children
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (July, 2001)
Average review score:

Worked UpAfter reading this book, I passed it along to my mother. She has also enjoyed it. I feel that Dr. Stone portrays a part of her feelings that really involve you and true feelings in life. Sometimes its hard to deal with the facts and family. Sharing this with everyone can sometimes help others deal better with it. I strongly recommend this book. The book not only involves personal feelings and got me worked up, but it also involves sympathy for Dr. Stone herself. I was given the book to read by Dr. Stone herself, I had no idea that she had ever undertaken this kind of horrific event. There is not a week that goes by that I do not think "How did this women survive?" I am only thankful that her husband was there to help her through such a tragic event. If only every family was like that. There for each other.
"A wonderful read""More than love" offers a personal view of the devastating effects of physical, mental and sexual abuse. Dr. Stone shares her heartbreaking experience of adopting Attachment Disorder children, and allows the reader to see the many difficulties that parents in every community will face. This book is a wonderful educational tool for every member of society.
A MUST READ!!!!Impossible to put down!! WOW!!! Everyone should read this book, even if you never plan to adopt children. As a matter of fact, I highly suggest that anyone that has children, works with them, and or is around them read this book, including Parents, Teachers, Doctors, Psychologist, Sociologist, Police Officers, Adoption Agencies, and Government officials. It will really open your eyes. While reading "More Than Love...", I was filled with every emotion possible, sadness, anger, and yes even happiness. I could not help crying, laughing, smiling, and empathizing with Dr. and Mr. Stone. I take my hat off to them.

Mother Teresa
Published in Paperback by Paulist Press (May, 1999)
Average review score:

A great learning experienceThe material is very moving and deep seated. I am not a deeply religious person, but this book has touched me. Elaine Stone presented facts about Mother Theresa of which the average person has no knowledge. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Virginia S. King, secretary NLAPW Inc, Cape Canaveral Branch
Elaine Murray Stone has a rare ability to bring Teresa aliveElaine Murray Stone has the rare ability of bringing our saints and heroes to life. It is good to see her "Mother Teresa" living vividly in her pages, and so soon after that great saint's death. Perhaps we needed a princess and a saint, and how extra-ordinary that they died the same week. But Elaine Stone writes not about a dead saint, but a vibrantly living one, and in a style suited for both student and teacher. This is a beautifully crafted biography, and a needed one. It will be around for a long time. Madeliene L'Engle Newberry Award author
Dr. Stone's book does much to lead her readers to the saintDr. Stone's book does much to lead her readers to come and know the Mother Teresa of these qualities; a holiness that was rooted in joy, humility that was rooted in an openness to all God asks of her, and a humor that never allowed her to take herself too seriously. This book leads us through the journey of Mother Teresa's life when the dream of the young girl to be a missionary folds into "the pencil in God's hand" that comes to write God's loving signature on the minds and hearts of millions throughout much of the twentyth century. Father Michael Mannion, former chaplain of the Catholic University, Washington, D. C.
